THE HUMILITY OF GOD
A POEM
Stan Schmidt

that God would be part of humanity
some would call it insanity
and some stupidity
many say it has never been done once
downplaying its significance
saying He was a good teacher
and a moral preacher
One with outstanding piety
but would never admit His Deity
yet that is exactly what He did
Eternity becoming a human mother's kid
born in an unassuming dirty stable
as God was secretly preparing His table
to show the world an incredible feast
the Living Bread looking like one of the least
so this child lived and grew
and nobody really knew
that this was history in the making
and for many their lives forsaking
to follow this Man
humanity's number one fan
laying down His life so they could live
a merciful disposition to forgive
now even though the galaxies He ruled
He allowed Himself to be mocked and ridiculed
the Creator flogged by the created
on the cross never having His glory substantiated
yet the time will come without fail
that all will know why He took the hammer and nail
love putting Him there
with a crown of thorns to wear
actually being their real King
submitting to unbearable suffering
the humility of God
graciously giving humanity the nod
doing what He did not have to do
just to tell us "I love you"
